Theo at Crater of Diamonds State Park (in Arkansas)

July 11, 2008 · 3 Comments

A few days ago we went to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. It was bloody hot! I don’t mind dry heat, but I hate humid heat. After digging for diamonds my Mom’s face got almost as red as a beet! We didn’t find any diamonds, but a lot of cool rocks and a mineral. I don’t really know what the mineral was, but it was orange. (HH note: It was most likely  Jasper) My mom found a really nice piece of quartz. Well, it looks like we are out of time. Bye!

Orange, I did not know that there was an orange mineral. When I looked it up on Google there was a long list…my goodness we are both learning a lot on YOUR trip. Love, have fun Grandma

Wow, Lots of minerals along the way. Each road cut tells a story. My dad was interested in geology and my brother became one. (Because he liked rock climbing)

Hope you discover how to like it humid and hot, because that is where you are, and where you are going. I took 3 showers a day when I lived in Memphis for a summer.

My Great Grandfather took pictures of the giant redwoods around Eureka in Humboldt county Californian for the Columbia Exposition which took place in Chicago in 1896. Somebody sent
the display, including the pictures and glass plate negatives to Eureka Springs Arkansas. That was the last anyone ever heard of them. My great grandfathers name was Agustus Ericson, or A. G Ericson.

    Enjoy sweating!

Was this the orange mineral? Stilbite:
An excellent, 7mm orange Chabazite ( cubic shape called a rhomboid) with deeper-orange Stilbite sprays to 4mm all around

Can’t send the picture thru wordpress. Guess i
    will have to wait.

    have fun
